Construction Notice - Booth at Albert / Old Wellington

September 28, 2009

Dear Resident/Owner:

Re: West End Regulator Upgrade

The firm of Taggart Construction Ltd has been engaged by the City of Ottawa to carry out the reconstruction the West End Regulators, the main site that is located at the intersection of Booth Street and Old Wellington Street. In addition there will be some additional works on the adjacent Transitway as well as the intersection of Old Wellington Street and Brickhill Street. It is proposed that work on the Regulators will commence in October 2009, with a completion of the project by the end of July 2010.

It should be noted that the alignment of Booth Street between the Transitway and Albert Street would be shifted to the west to facilitate the construction of the regulator at Booth and Old Wellington. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Booth Street in each direction throughout the construction period.

Due to spatial constraints associated with Booth Street alignment shift, the sidewalk on the east side of Booth Street will be closed between Albert and the Transitway. In it’s place we will provide a pedestrian walkway east of the construction site to facilitate pedestrian access to the Transitway.

As part of this contract, Taggart Construction Ltd is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until it is entirely completed. Their company will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the normal living of your family and/or normal operation of your business, but you can appreciate there may be some inconvenience during the course of the work.

The contractor is required by the City to carry liability insurance before any work may proceed. You may be asked by the contractor’s insurance agent for permission to look over your home before the work commences, as contractors often carry out pre-construction inspections for their own purposes. It is your choice whether or not you wish to have the inspection conducted on your property.

If you have any questions about the contractor’s inspection, or concerns about property damage or construction, please call the office of Taggart Construction Ltd at 613-526-2400, in order that they may deal with the issue as quickly as possible.

Should you have any inquiries once work commences, please do not hesitate to contact:

• The City’s Project Manager: Randy Dempsey, P. Eng., 613-580-2424 ext. 14102

(E-mail: Randy.Dempsey@ottawa.ca)

• The Stantec on-site Construction Inspector: Colin Goodwin, 613-697-5124

• Taggart Construction Ltd representative: Brad Smith, Superintendent, 613-978-1943

If you or any member of your household is blind, visually impaired or requires assistance when walking through the construction site during working hours, please feel free to contact the inspector on site or myself such that I can make arrangements to obtain assistance for you.

Yours truly,

Randy Dempsey, P.Eng.
